What is the Dream Book?

Teachers and principals throughout the district are invited to share what programs, teaching innovations and supplies they simply cannot get because there isn’t money in the budget. Educators can make a Dream Request for equipment and supplies that would enhance the teaching and learning experiences in Woodland Hills.

Once you apply, our committee will review your request. If approved, our staff will create a fundraising page on our website for your specific Dream. The page will include a fundraising thermometer to track the Dream's progress in raising the desired amount of funds. Our team will also create a custom social media image for your Dream. Your Dream will then be shared on our website, our E-Newsletter and on our social media pages. Further, we will send your request to select donors who wish to fulfill our teachers' Dreams.

You are strongly encouraged to share your custom image and link to your fundraising page with your students' families and on your own social media.

Once your fundraising goal is reached, you'll be contacted by our staff, who will purchase your selected items and have them sent directly to you at your school.

What are the rules for applying for a Dream?

Teachers at all schools across the district are invited to apply for a "Dream".

You can apply at ANY TIME throughout the year.

You can apply multiple times throughout the year. You can not have more than one active Dream at a time.

Dreams include equipment, supplies, or funds towards vendors. These supplies should in some way enhance your classroom or an existing or new innovative project for your students.

Dreams cannot exceed $3,000.

PLEASE NOTE: WHEN APPLYING FOR A TIME-SENSITIVE DREAM, YOU SHOULD ALLOW 2 MONTHS LEAD TIME IN ORDER TO ALLOW AMPLE TIME TO RAISE NEEDED FUNDS.

If your Dream is over funded, the extra funds will automatically cover the next Dream in line.

Examples of Funded Dreams:

While EVERY project chosen for funding has been truly deserving, the excerpts below are from projects that were funded particularly fast!

Dream Title: Broadway Music Library

The students enrolled in music classes at Woodland Hills High School have been challenged to perform multiple times throughout the year: In-class performances, Auditions, Snow Day Cabaret, Private lessons, Concerts, etc. These performances require the students to have knowledge in the repertoire of musical theater. To access music regularly, students are burdened with the reality of purchasing individual songs or songbooks. To lesson this burden and provide access to all students with the availability of sheet music, I would like to create a Broadway Music Library housed within the Performing Arts Department at Woodland Hills High School. Having these songbooks readily available will allow the students to peruse and utilize these musical materials without exhausting their own funds for curriculum or extracurricular activities. My Wishlist contains 86 titles of Broadway Songbooks containing the piano/vocal/guitar sheet music for each. This library has the potential to reach over a hundred students per year, and will be a permanent addition to the current music library, where music can be archived and reused over and over again by future students at Woodland Hills.

Dream Title: Take Me out to the Ballgame!

My tier-work project for this year is to provide my Life Skills students an opportunity like they’ve never had before! As a Life Skills teacher, I teach Reading, Math, and a variety of different Social Skills topics to my students; these social skills are things that my students will carry with them for the rest of their lives. This year, I am teaching my 10 Third Grade Life Skills students about restaurants! My class will be learning about proper restaurant etiquette, table manners, restaurant expectations, and what it means to “dress for the occasion”. In Math, my students will be learning about money math, reading dollar amounts, and making sure you have enough money! I have 10 3rd grade students in my Life Skills Class, who rarely have the opportunity to eat out at restaurants, and need to be taught using real world experiences to practice and master these life skills! My students will continue to learn about restaurant expectations throughout the school year, in the cafeteria and in my classroom. In March, my 10 students, 3 paraprofessionals, and I are planning our end of the year culminating activity, to put our practice to use! The culminating activity will be to take the students to “buy” a fancy outfit from the Free Store in Braddock, to wear the next day to a “fancy” lunch. We are going to take a bus to Olive Garden wearing our nice new fancy clothes, browse the menu, order independently, eat our food using proper etiquette, and displaying appropriate table manners. At the end of the meal, students will be checking their bill, and ensuring they have enough money to “pay the bill”
